Taapsee Pannu's Thappad to release tax free in Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh government declared Thappad, a Taapsee Pannu starrer flick tax free on Tuesday. The film is directed by Anubhav Sinha and narrates the story of domestic violence. The film will release on Friday, i.e. 28th February.

One of the authorities of Commercial Tax Department said that the film has been declared tax free because of its subject and the message it delivers to the masses who watch it. The single screen cinema halls and multiplexes have been requested not to take SGST on the tickets.

Presently the ticket of the film is taxed with 18% GST—SGST and the Central Goods and Services Tax at 9%.

In the film, Taapsee Pannu plays the role of an educated and a loving house maker who is slapped by her husband and continues staying living with him because of societal pressure. Thappad is an impactful film which would mad one feel uncomfortable and angry at the same time. It also makes the viewers question the everyday misogyny that people voluntarily adjust to in real lives.

Recently, Deepika Padukone’s Chhapaak was made tax free in the state even though the BJP allies claimed to boycott the filmwhen Deepika went out to support the Jawaharlal Nehru students who were attacked by masked thugs.
