Legendary actor Dimple Kapadia has bagged the role in filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming film, Tenet. Dimple’s manager, Purvi Lavingia Vats talks about how Dimple managed to audition for the role.
Purvi Lavingia Vats told one of the national leading dailies that they were in continuous conversation with the team of the film since the last one and a half month. She said
“With someone like Nolan, who is secretive about his scripts, the brief provides little information on the role. For the audition, they don’t give you a scene from the script. They [Nolan and team] had already seen her footage and had loved her work. When they saw her audition tape, Nolan and the casting director came around, and the rest is history.”
But auditions are not something that Dimple is very used to. She has won many awards and applause for her performances in Rudali, Dil Chahta Hai and others but she still is a complete stranger when it comes to auditioning for a certain role.
“Dimple has never auditioned before. So I had to sit her down and make her understand that the idea of casting people, basis their taped auditions, is to understand if they fit the part. But they are respectful when someone is reluctant and are willing to watch tapes of their previous work.”
Twinkle Khanna, Dimple’s daughter tweeted and congratulated her mother. She wrote “Congratulations mother! So so proud of you! You are truly amazing and you set an example for all of us that age is not an obstacle in the path of ability and talent #Hurrah.”
Tenet will also feature Robert Pattinson and Michael Caine and the film will be shot in seven countries, also including India. Many celebrities from the industry have rooted and congratulated Dimple on this achievement.
Anil Kapoor who was seen in American series 24 and Dany Boyle’s Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire, said that she is ‘phenomenal’. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap tweeted and wrote “So cool... Dimple Kapadia in a Chris Nolan Film...Wow.” Film producer, Gunnet Monga also sent in a congratulatory message to the actor.
Dimple stepped in the field of films in 1973 with her debut film Bobby. She is a National Award winner and has proven her mettle in Indian cinema with a wide-ranging mix of parallel and commercial films.
