The population is one of the major issues in countries like India. Today on World Population Day we will tell you that how it all started and who started it. As per information, it was all started by Dr. KC Zachariah.
Now comes the date, 11th July 1987 was the day when the world population turned 5 billion people. It was really surprising to see a rapid population growth in such a short time span. During this period he was working as a Sr Demographer at World Bank.
World Population Day aims to increase people’s awareness on various population issues such as the importance of family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health and human rights.
Natalia Kanem who is working as an Executive director at United Nations Family Planning Association (UNFPA) said in a statement;
“Family planning is not only a matter of human rights, it is also central to women’s empowerment, reducing poverty and achieving sustainable development.”
