A Pankaj Batra directorial, the movie is set amid the British govern in India and is a fictionalized variant of the time when Indian troopers were sent off to battle Germans amid World War I. Pankaj Batra is already known for his famous Punjabi movies like ‘Bambukat’, and ‘Goreyan Nu Dufa Karo’. While talking to a leading news service the protagonist of the film stated,
"'Rangroot' is on first world war. It is a Punjabi film. We are trying to dub it in both Hindi and English. The trailer response was very good... I wanted to do a film like this since the past three-four years. But the budget was too high. A film is not made in such a budget according to Punjabi films,"The story of the film is penned down by Gurpreet Singh Palhadi, the film features the hardships taken by the Indian armed force amid World War I and how they handle each trouble under the direction of Subedar Zorawar Singh. This is what has been displayed in the recently released trailer for the film. An exceptional and first war movie of Punjabi entertainment industry, veteran actor Yograj Singh, alongside Diljit Dosanjh has just set a different standard of acting skills with this film. The actor, 34, also said that big budget is not considered "safe".

If this goes well, then we would make more such films."Apart from this, Diljit will next be seen in "Welcome To New York", a comedy film, directed by Chakri Toleti. The film also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Karan Johar, Riteish Deshmukh, Lara Dutta and Boman Irani.
