Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath takes a major step in setting up police reforms in the state by means of appointing Police commissioners.
January 13, 2020: It has come to our knowledge that the Chief Minister of UP, Aditya Yoginath has announced to set up a police commissioner system in the state especially for Lucknow and Noida cities.
While announcing the same he said that in order to further improve the law and order situation of the state, this decision has been taken and the cabinet has already approved the Police Commissioners under the Commissionerate System.
He also added,
"Since the past 50 years, there was a demand to enforce the police commissioner system for smart policing and today the cabinet has taken a decision in this regard"
and further said,
"It was being considered since the past sometime that this system should be used for the urban population but it was ignored because of lack of political will power. I am happy that it has been approved for implementation in these two important areas"
When this rule comes into force, the district magistrates will get freed from the law and order related work, thus focusing more on the revenue related work.
The UP CM eyes Lucknow and Noida to be seen as the most developed cities of the state along with being safe and smarter as well.
As per the new Police Commissionerate system, one ADG level police officer will be posted as the Police Commissioner in Lucknow city and he will be assisted by two Joint commissioners of IG rank and 9 officers of SP rank. The same pattern will follow in Noida but the Police commissioner will be assisted by two additional commissioners of Police ACP with DIG ranks.
Woman police officers will also be appointed for the security of women in both the cities. CCTVs cameras will also be installed across the cities.
On the CM Yogi's announcement, the former DGP of Uttar Pradesh, Brij Lal have congratulated him for taking such a bold step for the betterment of the state.
