In a remarkable achievement, four young and determined boys from rural Punjab have triumphed in securing admission to the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla, Pune. Hailing from humble backgrounds, these individuals, trained at the Nishan-e-Sikhi Institute for Science and Training (NSIST) in Khadur Sahib, have realized their dreams of joining the revered academy.

Inspired by 1965 war hero Lieutenant General Harbakhsh Singh, NSIST, operating under the patronage of Padma Shri awardee Baba Sewa Singh Ji Kar Sewa, focuses on producing Army officers from the border region. Sikh students, mandated to maintain unshorn hair, are eligible for admission, without any such condition for students from other religions.

Cadet Sahijpreet Singh from Shaheed village, Cadet Balroop Singh from Sofian village, Cadet Dharwinder Singh from Hariayu village, and Cadet Jatinjot Singh from Kahnuwal village, all from diverse agricultural backgrounds, have successfully cleared the NDA written exam, realizing their aspirations to serve in the armed forces.

Expressing gratitude for the rigorous training at NSIST, these aspiring officers attribute their success to the institute’s dedication in molding individuals towards achieving their goals. With this recent achievement, NSIST continues its legacy with a total of 24 students selected for NDA and an impressive 90 securing positions in the Merchant Navy.

Maj Gen Balwinder Singh, VSM (retd), Director, NSIST (NDA Wing), commended the dedication and hard work of the students, marking another milestone in NSIST’s commitment to producing exceptional candidates for the defense forces and beyond.
