NIA Raids 30 Locations in Multi-State Operation to Disrupt Terrorist-Gangster Networks
  • PublishedMarch 12, 2024

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at 30 locations across multiple states, including Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chandigarh, as part of a coordinated effort to dismantle terrorist-gangster networks operating within the country. The operation aimed at disrupting and dismantling networks involved in various high-profile crimes, including assassinations, extortion, and other criminal activities.

The raids were conducted based on specific inputs obtained from the interrogation of individuals previously apprehended in connection to the case. The NIA, working in collaboration with state police forces, targeted locations associated with suspects identified through intelligence gathered during prior investigations.

The agency has been adopting targeted strategies, including the attachment and seizure of properties derived from the “proceeds of terrorism,” to disrupt and dismantle such terror and mafia networks along with their support infrastructure. These networks have been implicated in crimes such as assassinations of public figures, including Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala and social leaders like Pardeep Kumar.

Earlier in January, the NIA conducted raids at 32 locations across northern India, uncovering illegal arms, ammunition, incriminating documents, digital devices, and cash in connection to cases related to banned organizations such as Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The operations revealed the smuggling and procurement of terrorist hardware, including arms, ammunition, explosives, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), from across borders for carrying out various criminal activities.
