Mamata Banerjee Takes Swipe at BJP in Cooch Behar Rally, PM Modi Responds
  • PublishedApril 4, 2024

In a heated back-to-back Lok Sabha campaign battle in Cooch Behar district, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), likening them to an untrustworthy entity. Banerjee accused the BJP of following a singular principle of “one nation, one party” and criticized their handling of government schemes, alleging ulterior motives behind re-enrolling names for welfare programs.

Furthermore, Banerjee raised concerns over the impartiality of central investigating agencies and security forces, accusing them of favoring the BJP and violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). She specifically cited the nomination of former Cooch Behar SP Debashis Dhar as a BJP candidate, holding him responsible for violence during the 2021 assembly polls.

Responding to Banerjee’s remarks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude for the absence of obstruction during his rally, contrasting it with previous instances where space constraints were imposed. PM Modi emphasized the need for a strong and stable government, highlighting his administration’s efforts to combat corruption and terrorism.

The electoral battleground in Cooch Behar underscores the intense competition between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress, with both parties vying for supremacy in the region, which has been a stronghold for the BJP since the 2019 elections.
