BJP Delays Candidate Announcement for Four Punjab LS Seats

BJP Delays Candidate Announcement for Four Punjab LS Seats
  • PublishedMay 7, 2024

With the nomination process for the Punjab Lok Sabha elections starting on June 1, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is yet to finalize candidates for four out of 13 seats. The delay has left ticket aspirants on edge as the party has only announced nominees for nine seats so far.

The party’s decision to contest all 13 seats in Punjab independently has led to speculations and a four-cornered fight in the state. While the BJP released its first list of candidates in March and a second list in April, deliberations for the remaining seats are still ongoing, according to a senior BJP leader who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The deadline for filing nominations is approaching fast, leaving little time for candidates to interact with voters. The delay in candidate announcements is attributed to various factors, including ongoing deliberations and potential inductions of senior leaders and prominent individuals into the party.

The BJP’s delay in finalizing candidates has sparked anticipation and uncertainty among ticket aspirants and political observers alike, especially in constituencies like Anandpur Sahib, Ferozepur, Sangrur, and Fatehgarh Sahib, where nominees are yet to be declared.
