PM Modi Warns Against Alleged Attempt to Redirect Reservation Benefits
  • PublishedMay 7, 2024

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accused the Congress and its allies, including the INDIA bloc, of aiming to redirect reservation benefits from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) to the Muslim community. His statement comes in response to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s recent remark advocating “complete” reservation for Muslims.

During a rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar, PM Modi criticized Yadav’s statement, highlighting its implications. He asserted that any attempt to alter India’s identity under the guise of pseudo-secularism would be vehemently opposed.

Yadav’s comment, made in an interview with ANI, further fueled the political discourse. He asserted that Muslims should receive “poora” reservation, emphasizing their entitlement to full quota benefits.

In response, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi echoed PM Modi’s concerns, accusing the Congress and its allies of prioritizing Muslim reservation over existing quotas for SCs, STs, and OBCs. Trivedi emphasized the need to uphold the existing reservation structure, warning against any attempts to dilute it.

The ongoing debate underscores the contentious nature of reservation politics in India, with political parties trading barbs over the allocation of quotas. As the electoral landscape continues to evolve, discussions surrounding reservation policies are expected to remain at the forefront of political discourse.
